Janine Townsend
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR
Janine is a Director with Chorley Consulting. She holds a MSc in Global aquatic biodiversity and a BSc in Molecular biology and biotechnology, both from the University of Hull. She has over 15 years of regulatory and product safety experience within FMCG and the Fragrance industry. With over 7 years directly working with medical devices.
Janine is an experienced project manager, bringing to Chorley knowledge in the regulatory arena as well as toxicological data analysis skills for use in the risk assessment of medical devices. Janine is a BSI committee member on CH/194 (Biological evaluation of medical devices) and a member of ESTIV (European Society of Toxicology In Vitro).
Rona Middlemiss
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Rona is a Director of Chorley Consulting and manages a team of toxicologists that specialise in the risk assessment of medical devices. She is a UK and European Registered Toxicologist and has been working in the area of medical device safety assessment for over 8 years. She holds a MSci in Biomedical sciences from the University of Aberdeen.
Rona has extensive experience preparing Biological Evaluation Plans and Reports, and Toxicological Risk Assessments of medical device leachates across a broad range of medical device categories. She has been involved in successful regulatory submissions within both the EU MDR and US FDA framework.
Phil Clay
SENIOR PRINCIPAL TOXICOLOGIST
Phil is a UK and European registered toxicologist and specialises in product safety assessment with over 30 years experience in toxicology and safety assessment. He is a Principal Expert for WG6 (Mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity).
He established his reputation as a genetic toxicologist working within the agrochemical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. He has contributed to many expert panels, helping to shape the testing guidelines and strategies in place today. More recently, this experience and depth of understanding has been applied to designing safety assessment programmes for medical devices for a wide range of device manufacturers.He has published and presented widely in the field of toxicology throughout his career.
Fiona Chapman
TOXICOLOGIST
Fiona is a Toxicologist with Chorley Consulting. She is a UK and European registered toxicologist with over 17 years experience. She holds a BSc in Chemistry from Swansea University and an MSc in Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Monitoring from the University of Ulster. She is a skilled toxicologist and brings a huge amount of experience and knowledge from her time leading a team in the safety group supporting project teams during the development and deployment of consumer products in a multinational FMCG business.
Previously, she led a computational toxicology group and worked in an in vitro toxicology group within the same business. She has published widely in the field of toxicology throughout her career.
Laura West
SAFETY ASSESSOR
Laura is the newest member to the Chorley team. She holds a BSc in biology and completed her PhD on the role of platelets in the vessel wall response to injury and inflammation. She brings to Chorley over 17 years of experience working in academic research including leading projects and training group members.
With Laura’s experience comes extensive knowledge of in vivo models, literature review and project management. She has also published and presented in the field of vascular biology. Laura is a member of Royal Society Biology.
Vicki Darbyshire
SAFETY ASSESSOR
Vicki is an Associate Safety Assessor with Chorley Consulting. She holds an MSci in Forensic and Analytical Science from the University of Huddersfield, and a PhD in biochemistry with a focus on mass spectrometry from the University of Liverpool. Vicki has a number of years of expertise in medical device chemical characterisation as an experienced director of extractable and leachable (E&L) studies in support of regulatory submissions. Additionally, she brings knowledge and experience in analytical study management, having led and supported teams of Analytical Project Managers and Data Interpretation Specialists in the Life Sciences industry.
Lisa Grant
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Lisa is an Administrative Assistant with Chorley Consulting. She holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from The University of Hull. She has experience of working in a range of roles and brings advanced organisational and IT skills to the business.
